ETYMOLOGY

  • Finance : From Old French “finer” which meant to “settle a debt”. The original sense later evolved to “payment of a compensation, taxation”. Current sense date from the 18th century and reflect sense development as “financial matters”.
  • Insight : Middle English period in the sense of “inner sight, wisdom”. Word is probably of Scandinavian and Low German origin and related to Swedish (“insikt”) Dutch (“inzicht”) and German (“Einsicht).
  • FinSight : Haplology of the two words as formally registered to the Geneva Chamber of Commerce in January 2017 ! Refers to a long experience and deep understanding of financial markets.
